T20 World Cup 2022: Can David Willey be England's key to victory against India in the semi-finals?
It's been a strange T20 World Cup so far for England. They entered the tournament as one of the favourites to go the distance and, by that metric, have fulfilled that prophecy by making it to the semi-finals

However, they have had a quiet tournament up until this point – and while some of this can be put down to the fact that the pitches on offer have offered plenty of assistance to the bowlers, some of it is down to England's batters not putting their best foot forward.
But their bowling has been top-notch – and it says a lot that, even if there's a chance that Mark Wood might miss out on the semi-finals with an injury, England have plenty of options to fill his spot.
There's Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan on the bench if they choose to replace Mark Wood with another full-time bowler.
Indeed, as Jos Buttler himself admitted, there are several players they have who are ready and raring to go if given the opportunity.
"We will give it as long as we can with those guys (Wood and Dawid Malan), and as always, we have 15 guys preparing to play."
"We have some fantastic players who have not yet played in the tournament, and they will be desperate to make their mark."
"I wouldn't expect them to be happy that they're not playing – everyone should have the belief that they deserve to be in the XI and have full confidence that if they get their chance, they'll perform."
However, there is a case that neither Tymal Mills nor Chris Jordan should replace Mark Wood – that distinction should go to David Willey.
For one, David Willey will add to England's already deep batting line-up – they currently have full-time batting options down to number nine, where Chris Woakes comes in to bat.
David Willey would be an upgrade on Mark Wood over the bat, even though the latter has a half-century in Test cricket – during an Ashes match, no less!
However, there's also what he offers as a bowler. His bowling style is centred around hitting the hard lengths and looking for that tricky bounce.
That has caused the Indians some trouble in this tournament – for instance, how Lungi Ngidi bounced out all of India's frontline batters at Perth.
There's also the fact that he's a left-arm pacer, and India's batsmen – especially Rohit Sharma – have shown a chronic inability to counter left-arm pace.
And while England already have Sam Curran, there's no such thing as too much of a good thing – significantly, if it will help England in the match.
There's been plenty of talk about an India-Pakistan final, and it's naturally made England feel like they're being seen as an afterthought – whether rightly or otherwise.
"We certainly don't want an India-Pakistan final," Jos Buttler said ahead of the match. "So we're trying to do what we can to make sure that it doesn't happen."
And there are few better options than David Willey in place of Mark Wood if England is serious about preventing an India VS Pakistan final.
