T20 World Cup 2022: Australia keeps its semifinal hopes alive with a win against Ireland
Aaron Finch's 63-run knock, followed by a comprehensive bowling performance, led Australia to a 42-run win over Ireland in the Super 12 Group 1 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Gabba in Brisbane on Monday
Australia started with an early blow when Barry McCarthy scalped David Warner, but Aaron Finch held the innings to take the team to 179/5 in 20.0 overs.
Later, the Australian bowling unit destroyed the Irish run-chase as they bowled out for 137.
For Ireland, Lorcan Tucker was the last hope, scoring an unbeaten 71 off 48 balls. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, and Adam Zampa took two wickets each for Australia. For Ireland, Barry McCarthy took three wickets.

Andy Balbirnie, the skipper of Ireland, says it was a challenging game; Finch's innings took it away, they bowled well for the most part, but a few overs did not go their way. He credits Tucker for how he played and hopes he can continue to do well.
Aaron Finch, the skipper of Australia, is also the Player of the Match. He felt “it was not the easiest wicket as it played slow, and 180 was a good score. Not feeling no pressure, there has been a lot of support for him, he has trained well, and that is all he can control, there will be good days, and there will be bad days”.
He stated that wide balls were not easy to face, but it was easier when they were bowling straight and that he will get a scan and hopes the injury is not bad enough. Finch says it was a good performance; he felt 180 was a good score. They needed to lay the foundation early but needed help to get going straight on.
Finch also shared that David had a niggle but nothing to worry and felt as England and New Zealand will be big game, it would have been great to dismiss Ireland for a lot lower, but Tucker played a brilliant knock.
