Pro Kabaddi League: Puneri Paltan reclaims top spot after the win against Bengal Warriors
Puneri Paltan defeated Bengal Warriors in a highly lop-sided match and closed the Pune leg in style. With that, they reclaimed their spot as the table toppers in an exciting 43-27 encounter in the ninth edition of the Vivo Pro Kabaddi League (PKL)
Aslam Inamdar touched the 100-point mark for the season, and his teammates were a constant pillar of support to him. Akash Shinde finished with 10 points, Inamdar took nine, and Mohit Goyat secured eight points.
In the first half, Paltan was quick to inflict the first All-Out on the Warriors. After taking a massive 11-1 lead, the Warriors retaliated to score 10 points while only conceding three.
They launched their first All-Out, followed by Paltan deploying their second one to garner a 24-12 lead. They comfortably headed into the break as the score read 24-13.
Paltan were relentless in the second half, thanks to Inamdar, Shinde and Goyat. The talented trio clinched raid after raid to combat the Warriors' defense.
Meanwhile, the Warriors hoped to be saved by their star player Maninder Singh but his efforts couldn't prevent a third All-Out for the Paltan, who extended their lead to 33-14.
Puneri Paltan were at the top of their game, and Shinde's Super Raid took out D Balaji, Vaibhav Garje Surender Nada, and Manoj Gowda, which initiated a pulsating victory for them.
As of now, Fazel Atrachali-led Puneri Paltan is soaring high. As revealed by the skipper, they are working on being a balanced team with considerable depth.
On the other hand, Bengal Warriors are ranked seventh with 37 points in 13 matches.
Haryana Steelers end winless streak after beating Gujarat Giants
Haryana Steelers are now back on track after overcoming Gujarat Giants 33-32 in an exciting match at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Monday.
Manjeet stole the show with 14 points and curated a win for the Steelers. Gujarat's Chandran Ranjit picked up the first raid point in the match. Manjeet's subsequent two-point raid proved crucial for Haryana Steelers in the starting moments of the game.
In response, the Giants effected a Super Tackle on Manjeet, and the Steelers inflicted an All-Out on Gujarat to grab the lead. The Giants orchestrated a resurgence as Rakesh and Ranjit secured two-point raids.
They briefly reduced the deficit in the score, but Manjeet clinched a raid that re-established their lost momentum. He scored another raid point in the last few seconds of the first half and completed a Super 10.
The Steelers led 21-16 at the break. Manjeet's heroics continued in the second half, ensuring they remained dominating. Mahendra Rajput then effected a two-point raid, and Rinku took out Manjeet to keep Giants in the game.
They registered a crucial All-Out hoping to turn the match around. However, Haryana's Jaideep tackled Mahendra, and then Kapil took down Manjeet to keep the scoreline flat.
With five minutes on the clock, both sides played with increased urgency. Manjeet exacted a running hand touch on Ranjit to keep Haryana's gears running.
At the last minute, Jaideep took out Mahendra to increase their advantage. The Steelers closed the match with a comprehensive victory to end their three-match-long winless streak.
They are currently eighth-ranked with 36 points. Gujarat Giants are the second-last team, with just five wins in 13 matches.
