Pro Kabaddi League: Guman Singh's Super 10 helps U Mumba beat league leaders Puneri Paltan
The latest match between U Mumba and Puneri Paltan was a close contest that unfolded at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, in Pune on Friday
U Mumba made a last-ditch effort to corner their opponent Puneri Paltan 34-33 by the end of it. Thanks to Aslam Inamdar, Puneri Paltan eked out a 4-3 lead in the eighth minute.
U Mumba countered the attack with Guman Singh's Super Raid that took out Aslam Inamdar, Sombre, and Abinesh Nadarajan. U Mumba established a two-point lead in the 13th minute, followed by a Super Tackle by Mohit Goyat and Mohammad Nabibakhsh.
Fifteen minutes in, Puneri Paltan were back in the lead. The trade-off eventually led to U Mumba inflicting their first All-Out in the 19th minute. At 15-13, Aslam Inamdar secured a bonus point that equalised the score to 15-15 before the break.
The second half started, and both sides created equal opportunities. Puneri Paltan paced ahead at 19-16 in the 27th minute after Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat exhibited another round of their raiding prowess.
Mohit Goyat subsequently inflicted a brilliant raid that left U Mumba with one player on the mat. Puneri Paltan took out Guman Singh, and an All-Out extended their lead to 25-20 in the 32nd minute.
Guman Singh's multi-point raid reduced U Mumba's deficit, but they subsequently inflicted a crucial All-Out in the 38th minute, giving them a 31-30.
Mohit's last-minute raid levelled the score at 33-33, but Ashish exacted Do-or-Die attack and U Mumba claimed a thrilling victory.
Patna Pirates beat Jaipur Pink Panthers to register five consecutive wins
Patna Pirates beat Jaipur Pink Panthers 37-30 at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, in Pune on Friday. The Patna Pirates have not lost in their last six matches, thanks to their star trio - Sachin (eight points), Rohit Gulia (nine points) and Mohammadreza Chiyaneh (five points) - who were breathtaking on the mat last evening.
Both teams proceeded in equal measures but approached the game differently. The Patna Pirates hogged up several points thanks to a solid partnership between Rohit Gulia and Sachin, while Arjun Deshwal raked in most of the raid points for the Panthers.
Seven minutes before the break, Mohammadreza Chiyaneh tackled Arjun Deshwal and Puneri Paltan geared up to inflict an All-Out. The Jaipur Pink Panthers fended off two looming All-Outs, and a Super Tackle by Ankush on Sachin gave them a boost.
However, the Patna Pirates pressed on and inflicted the All-Out, with Mohammadreza Chiyaneh taking out V Ajith Kumar to take the lead 15-12. The Patna Pirates led 20-13 before the break.
The Jaipur Pink Panthers returned more robust in the second half, and the Patna Pirates struggled. They were briefly overtaken by the Jaipur Pink Panthers when they salvaged their first All-Out.
The inaugural champions grabbed a 23-21 lead, but Rohit Gulia and Sachin stuck to their game and snapped more points. They inflicted their second All-Out soon after and won by a seven-point margin.
Despite losing the match, the Jaipur Pink Panthers are still in third place with 38 points from 12 games.
In the sixth week of the ninth edition of the PKL, Puneri Paltan stands as table toppers with seven wins out of 13 matches. They're three points clear of second-placed Bengaluru Bulls, who are still one match behind.
