Pro Kabaddi League: Gujarat Giants appoints Chandran Ranjit as captain
In Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) the Gujarat Giants declared that left raider Chandran Ranjit would take over as the captain before the league's ninth season
It will start on October 7 at Shree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru. Chandan shared his pleasure at being chosen as the skipper at a press conference.
"I am excited to take over the responsibility of the Captain of Gujarat Giants for Pro Kabaddi League Season 9 and I wish to express my gratitude to the team management for putting their faith in me," said Chandan.
Head Coach Ram Mehar Singh shed light on their approach for the upcoming season and let supporters in on the work within the squad.
Other members attending the press meet were:
- Veteran head coach and assistant coach M.V. Sundaram.
- Rinku (the vice-captain for the franchise this season).
- New young players (Parteek Dahiya and Rakesh Kumar).
Ram Meher Singh appreciated Adani Sportsline for supporting the team and disclosed that they are working on their strengths during training and planning to strategize their game plan according to the team they encounter.
Adani Sportsline is the proud owner of the Gujarat Giants, who were introduced to the league in 2017. The franchise became runners-up twice in 2017 and 2018.
Rinku, meanwhile, was sentimental about their inability to compete on their home grounds this year. However, the Giants have garnered a massive fan following all over the country, which will have a positive impact nevertheless.
Dabang Delhi KC Star Naveen Kumar is afraid of injuries
Pro Kabaddi star Naveen Kumar recently gave his opinion on sustaining injuries. Every athlete is terrified of getting injured, stated the raider who was afflicted by damage last season, keeping him sidelined for a couple of weeks.
Although his comeback was remarkable, he admitted it took a toll on his mental health as he couldn't rule out the possibility of it recurring. Naveen further said that an injured player needs extra motivation from others to get his mojo back.
"After the injury, one keeps on thinking that whenever they start playing, they might get hurt again. It feels good when you have someone to motivate you during that tough time," shared Naveen.
Kumar led Dabang Delhi KC to the title last season and finished fourth on the raiders' leaderboard with 207 raid points despite his brief absence. He was comprehensively retained by Delhi ahead of the Pro Kabaddi 2022 Auction.
Naveen Kumar talks about his rehab experience before PKL
Naveen Kumar also shared that he injured himself during the break between the two PKL seasons. He was in pain during his appearance at the Senior National Championships in early 2022.
Fortunately, he has fully recovered after attending a rehab program and is taken good care of by the Delhi team management, as stated him.
Defending champions Dabang Delhi KC will start their opening match against two-time winners U Mumba on October 7, 2022.
