Dabang Delhi KC crowned Pro Kabaddi League champions
Dabang Delhi KC have been crowned the champions of the 2021-22 Pro Kabaddi League after they defeated Patna Pirates 37-36 on February 25.
The three-time champions were unable to hold their ground in the final match of the season, hosted in Bengaluru.
The winners earned a cash prize of three crores in their maiden league victory, whilst Pawan Sehrawat received the Raider of the season award for scoring 304 raid points in 24 matches.
Patna and Delhi exhibited consistency in their performances throughout the season. They occupied the top two positions on the leaderboard after the League stage, so their clash in the season finale was well anticipated.
Patna, a team of strong players, have shown this season that they are very capable of attacking and defending with equal efficiency. Although they don't have superstar Pardeep Narwal to back them up anymore, their collective faith in the team has been rewarding so far.
Patna coach Ram Meher Singh had full confidence in his team going into the game, saying: "Patna Pirates have shown great consistency and strength in offence and defence right through the tournament.
"We will have certain plans to tackle Naveen Kumar and their powerful raiders, but we will also have our strategies for the entire team as well.
"I am confident with my team, and I know that they will give more than 100 per cent to ensure we win the title for the fourth time.
This is going to be a thrilling final and we can't wait for it."
Patna dominated the semi-final against UP Yoddha as their defence bewildered the opposition, especially the raiding duo of Pardeep Narwal and Surender Gill.
On the other hand, season seven runners up Delhi dialled up their defence against the Bengaluru Bulls making another attempt in bagging the esteemed title.
Although Patna Pirates hailed as the stronger team, Dabang Delhi KC didn't let the memory of their previous loss to the Bengal Warriors in the 2019 finale drag them down.
Despite starting off on weaker terms, Delhi turned the tables in the second half of the finale of the eighth season.
