Cristian Garin found his rhythm and settled on the court early in the game, but Nick Kyrgios did not flinch and quickly secured the first set 6-4. He built on the momentum to frustrate his Chilean opponent with forehand returns and serv to take control. The 27-year-old Australian fired 20 winners in the first two sets to get a comfortable two-set advantage.

Cristian Garin put forth a brilliant display of excellent footwork to take control of the game. Still, Nick Kyrgios did not falter and saved all break points he faced during the set before rallying from ⅗ to secure a semi-final spot after two hours and 13 minutes.

In an on-court interview, Nick Kyrgios said, "A fantastic atmosphere out here again. I never thought I would be in the semi-finals at a Grand Slam. I thought that ship had sailed. I did not go about things great earlier in my career and may have missed my window. I am proud of the way I have come back out here”.

The victory made World No. 40 Nick Kyrgios the lowest rank and unseeded competitor to advance to Top-4 since World No. 75 Marat Safin and World No. 94 Rainer Schuettler in 2008.
