Ahead of the onset of the tournament, the United States Tennis Association declared the names of the wildcard entries in the contest on Wednesday.

Venus Williams, the seven-time major champion and the sister of Serena Williams, has 23 Grand Slam titles. She is headlining the wild card entries this season with many other great male and female tennis players.

Venus' name in the wild card list is followed by Sofia Kenin, 2020's Australian Open champion, Elizabeth Mandlik CoCo Vandeweghe, Eleana Yu and Peyton Stearns, Jaimee Fourlis of Australia and Harmony Tan of France.

Meanwhile, the men's category also has wild card entries carrying the names of JJ Wolf, Learner Tien, Emilio Nava, Ben Shelton and Sam Querrey.

Venus Williams is playing the US Open 2 years after 2020, and all eyes will be on how she makes her comeback to one of the premier tournaments of the year.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams might retire after this year's US Open. Serena had not played for a long time due to specific injuries and then her maternity leave and made a comeback in this year's Wimbledon only to return home after the first round. Though she hasn't made any official statements yet, she has thrown hints that she might be distancing herself from the game now.

Gael Monfils pulled out of US Open due to a foot injury

Gael Monfils, holding a world ranking of 22, has decided to pull out of the tournament after an old foot injury resurfaced during a recent game.

Monfils returned to playing after May when he suffered a severe foot injury and underwent surgery.

He returned to Tennis last week and won two matches at the Canadian Masters before his injury again came up and forced him to return to bed rest.

He last attained his career's best ranking of 6 in 2016 and faced severe injuries throughout the year.

Unfortunately, owing to another severe foot injury, Monfils won't be able to play this year's final grand slam as he has been prescribed another treatment period right after returning from his last treatment.
