Tennis News: Alexander Zverev will not play in US Open

The event is popular because it allows the option of exploring Japan and its culture. Besides Alexander Zverev, other top players like Casper Ruud and native Kei Nishikori have signed up for the event.
Despite his eagerness to play, Zverev might not return before the US Open but still hopes to make it. He has started to recover after sustaining a terrible ankle injury that had him exit the arena in a wheelchair.
The injury occurred during his French Open semi-final against Rafael Nadal, as a result of which he had to undergo surgery on torn ligaments in his right ankle last month.
Will Alexander Zverev compete in the US Open?
The 25-year-old is most likely to be ruled out of this year's final Grand Slam, which begins on August 29 on the hardcourts of Flushing Meadows in New York.
He is on a path of rapid recovery but still not ready for the US Open, at least in his usual form. Zverev clarified that he wouldn't rush back and only return when he gets his mojo back.
It seems as if he might feel better before the end of September. According to a spokesperson, "Sascha is recovering well and is still hoping that he can be ready for the US Open. However, it is still too early to tell if he will be able to compete there or not."

World number two is expected to recover before the Davis Cup Finals group stage in mid-September. "Sascha is recovering well and is still hoping that he can be ready for the US Open," as stated by a spokesperson.
Zverev, the runner-up at the 2020 US Open, put up a video on social media where he walked without crutches. He is now looking forward to leading Germany's campaign in the group stage of the Davis Cup that starts on September 13.
Germany will compete at home in Hamburg with France, Belgium and Australia. The top two teams from each of the four groups will enter the quarter-finals of the men's draw.
