Ruud closed in on a 0-3 deficit to win the opening set, but Hurkacz directed the pace of the remaining minutes and made some aggressive hits to level the pair's ATP Head2Head series at 1-1.

Hurkacz converted five out of eight break points before closing a two-hour, two-minute long match at the ATP Masters 1000 event. Hurkacz bested the likes of Emil Ruusuvuori, Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Nick Kyrgios in nail-biting games this week in Quebec.

Hurkacz got off to a good start as he broke three times and took a 3-0 lead but the Norwegian whipped out the excellent sportsmanship that has already earned him three ATP Tour titles in 2022.

He won three games in a row before producing another spectacular response at 5-5 to land another break of the Hurkacz serve, an unbreakable wall in the quarter-finals against Kyrgios.

Hurkacz was alarmed, but his ability to fend off the pressure enabled him to break Ruud's serve twice in each set to curate a comfortable victory and set up his second season's final.

The 25-year-old is seeking his second title of 2022 and second at the Masters 1000 level after a win in Miami in 2021. The Halle champion's journey to the final in Montreal has pushed him to the ninth rank in the Pepperstone ATP Live Race To Turin.

Hurkacz admitted that he wanted to survive the game as Ruud played incredible tennis and was the better player for the first set and a half.

Pablo Carreno Busta defeats Daniel Evans to enter Montreal final

Pablo Carreno Busta delivered a brilliant performance in the semi-final of the National Bank Open on Saturday by defeating Daniel Evans 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 to set up his first ATP Masters 1000 final.

In a match lasting two hours and 58-minutes, Carreno Busta gave his best shot and won the final 12 points, including eight on return.

Although it was fun for the crowd, Busta had it rough as the tennis star opened up. He couldn't convert his match point in the second set because of his opponent's vital service.

It's difficult to play another set after losing a match point. However, he was in a good place mentally despite struggling at the beginning of the third set.

He then decided to shoot up his attack and keep pushing. Carreno Busta will now face eighth seed Hubert Hurkacz in the final clash.
