Pro Kabaddi League: 5 legends from season 1
The first season of the Pro Kabaddi League, held in 2014, brought into the limelight many legends in the field of Kabaddi
Though some of the greatest players in the game, these legends became excessively popular only after they started playing in the Pro Kabaddi League.
Some credit for the popularity that the Pro Kabaddi League holds today goes to these legendary players such as Manpreet Singh, Manjeet Chhillar, Rahul Chowdari and others.
Here's a list of 5 players with exemplary talents that played in the first season:
Manpreet Singh
Manpreet Singh, one of the oldest Kabaddi players of India to play in the PKL, was a crucial part of the Indian Kabaddi team during the 2007 Kabaddi World Cup. After that, he was also seen playing in the Asian Games, bringing India gold after gold.
Manpreet Singh has always been a significant part of the Pro Kabaddi League, first as a player, then as a captain and currently, as a coach.
He captained Patna Pirates in 2016 when they won the title. In the last season, he coached Gujarat Giants; he's coaching Haryana Steelers this season.
Rahul Chowdari
Rahul Chowdari is, hands down, one of the best raiders India has ever seen. Rahul has over 1000 raid points in his name and has always been a crucial part of the PKL.
Though a start at one point, Chowdari has recently begun to lose his charm. Many suspected he wouldn't be picked this season, but he was Jaipur Pink Panthers. Depending on his performance, this may or may not be the last season of his career.
Manjeet Chhillar
Manjeet Chhillar, an incredible defender, has 616 tackle points under his name.
He debuted in the league in the first season as the captain of Bengaluru Bulls and subsequently in the second season.
Owing to his incredible performance as a defender in the second season, he won the award for the "most valuable player".
After retiring from Kabaddi last year after playing for the winning team, Dabang Delhi, Chhillar has now taken up the role of Puneri Paltan's assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Sandeep Narwal
Sandeep Narwal, an all-rounder, has 348 tackle points and 275 raid points in his name.
He is one of the legendary Kabaddi players of India and has been a part of the Pro Kabaddi League since the first season.
Unfortunately, recently, Narwal has lost his charm, and none of the franchises picked him for the upcoming season in the recent season 9 auction.
Ajay Thakur
Ajay Thakur, an experienced and terrific Indian raider, has also been a part of the Pro Kabaddi League since the first season.
Over the years, Thakur played for various franchises like Bengaluru Bulls, Tamil Thalaivas, Puneri Paltan, etc.
In the last season of PKL, he was seen playing for Dabang Delhi. However, he could only play five matches, after which he suffered an injury and had to pull out of the season.
He shall not be playing in the upcoming season of the Pro Kabaddi League either due to his injuries. It remains to be seen if season 8 was the last season for Thakur or if he will return to the league in season 10.
