Mohamed Salah couldn't continue after getting injured for Liverpool.
Mohamed Salah left the field after a groin injury took hold of him in the FA Cup final win against Chelsea, while Virgil van Dijk competed for 90 minutes and couldn't push himself any further for the extra time. Salah was sitting on the pitch, holding his groin but was unable to continue. So he left only to be replaced by Diogo Jota, who has a record of 23 goals for club and country this season.
Van Dijk departed the field before extra-time started, with Joel Matip as the substitute. The former disclosed what happened after the match ended: "We're going to check it out. In the first half, when I sprinted, I felt a twinge behind my knee; I played on." However, he chose to leave instead of playing because he knew it would be risky for the club. So he decided to trust Joel rather. After the match, interim boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that he talked to Van Dijk and Salah.
They're okay and will possibly make a comeback in their upcoming Premier League match on Tuesday. Liverpool won 6-5 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes. Klopp's side has crucial games ahead, with this year's Champions League final in Paris on May 28 and their remaining Premier League fixtures at Southampton on Tuesday. Their final day game against the Wolves will occur at Anfield on May 22. The forward has amassed 30 Liverpool goals this season alongside two more for Egypt and is an essential factor in Liverpool's desire to score a quadruple.
In February, the 29-year-old netted two goals and assisted another in a 6-0 victory over Leeds United, which increased his tally of assists to 160. Salah has not yet extended his contract at Anfield as negotiations over his deal proceed. His current contract will expire in 2023.
