Champions League: Barcelona VS Bayern Munich, Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane shine for the Germans
Barcelona and Bayern Munich clash in the Allianz Arena was the biggest match of the second matchday of the Champions League
However, Barcelona's undefeated start to the season has ended due to a heartbreaking 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in their second Champions League group stage encounter.
Barcelona was the only team for most of the game and could have gained much more, but a terrible five-minute stretch in the second half resulted in a loss they certainly didn't deserve.
Goals extended Barcelona's poor run of results in Munich from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane in the second half.
Barcelona vs Bayern Munich: What went wrong?
Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen were started as the center-backs in Xavi's strongest starting team of the game. The two were flanked on the right and left, respectively, by Jules Kunde and Marcos Alonso.
Sergio Busquets, Gavi, and Pedri dominated the park's center, and Robert Lewandowski completed the group with Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele.
With a solid and high-press game, the hosts controlled the opening minutes of the contest.
The most significant chance of the first half was missed by Robert Lewandowski, who was playing for Bavaria following a summer transfer to the Camp Nou, in the 18th minute after being set up by a deft pass from Gavi.
The first half ended with the clubs tied at 0-0 as the Poland striker squandered two more good chances to score, while Bayern barely troubled Marc-Andre ter Stegen's goalpost.
Five minutes after the game's restart, defender Hernandez's header from a Joshua Kimmich corner gave the hosts the lead. They can credit goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for keeping them in the game.
Sane's perfect pass from Jamal Musiala to him allowed him to slip the ball past goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen before Barcelona had a chance to readjust.
Frenkie de Jong and Ferran Torres joined the action for the visitors in the 60th minute. Soon after, Pedri had a fantastic chance to win it back but failed to make the post.
The Catalans lost their focus in the final fifteen minutes as they appeared ready to concede defeat again to Bayern Munich. Barcelona ultimately failed to score a consolation goal, and the Germans won the match 2-0.
Currently, in the second position, Xavi Hernandez's Barcelona faces two crucial back-to-back games against Internazionale, who are in the third position in the group. This sequence might significantly impact which team advances to the knockout stage.
Bayern Munich, who defeated Inter 2-0 on Wednesday in Milan, currently leads the group with six points from its opening two games.
