Sunrises registered the first victory. CSK's horrible season continues.
Chennai Super Kings' horrible start in IPL 2022 continues, as they lost their fourth consecutive game in the tournament. It is only the second time that Chennai has had such a horrible start to the tournament. Sunrisers Hyderabad finally managed to do a successful run-chase and opened their account of victory for this season by winning by eight wickets.
Terrific bowling from SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad's disciplined bowling did an excellent job of keeping Chennai Super King's batters out of their touch. They kept taking regular wickets of Chennai batters resulting in a below-average total of 155 on a high-scoring pitch of DY Patil Stadium. Moeen Ali (48) scored the maximum run for CSK, and all other top-order batters looked to be struggling in scoring boundaries. T Natarajan, along with Washington Sundar, struck two wickets each to leave the top-order disabled. Skipper Ravindra Jadeja tried to make his mark by scoring 15-ball 23 but failed to continue his inning as Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed him for a beautiful yorker.
On the team's performance, Ravindra Jadeja said, "It's with the ball that we are disappointed, but we were 20-25 runs short. We were looking to fight till the end. 155 isn't bad, and our bowlers were looking to take wickets. Tomorrow might be a day off, but we'll look to improve. We'll talk about where we are lacking. We are professionals and need to work hard, stick together and come back stronger".
Comfortable win for Sunrisers Hyderabad
In response to the target of 155 posted by Chennai Super Kings, Abhishek Sharma opened the innings with captain Kane Williamson for Sunrisers Hyderabad. CSK bowlers struggled to dislodge the openers throughout the powerplay. Mukesh Choudhary went lucky to get the wicket of the skipper in the twelfth over of the play, and that too due to poor judgment by Kane Williamson. However, Abhishek Sharma played a brilliant partnership knock with Rahul Tripathi from there onward. Abhishek Sharma comfortably played the inning to score 50-ball 75, while Rahul Tripathi went to play attacking with a strike rate of over 260-plus. Rahul Tripathi remained not out at 39 along with Nicholas Pooran to make the team cross the line towards victory.
Playoffs under risk now for CSK
With Ruturaj Gaikwad still struggling to score and bowlers failing to utilize the pitch for their advantage, Chennai Super Kings now have a lot of misery piled up for them to sort. With this defeat, the defending champions are left needing roughly eight wins from 10 matches to be hopeful of qualifying for the playoffs.
