New Zealand VS Bangladesh, T20 tri-Series, match five: New Zealand win by 48 runs
Devon Conway (64), Glenn Phillips (60), and an all-round bowling performance helped New Zealand defeat Bangladesh by 48 runs in the New Zealand tri-series match-five in Christchurch
Bangladesh is no longer in competition for a spot in the tri-series final, although they still have one game remaining. It is scheduled for Thursday, October 13th, at 7.30 a.m. IST versus Pakistan.
Following quickfire 60 from Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips, Adam Milne and Michael Bracewell made early inroads to bowl the hosts for a comfortable victory. Bangladesh looked competitive with the bat, but they could not maintain their pace in chasing a target of more than 200.
Milne's three wickets stopped the pursuit, with his pace making a difference. Michael Bracewell and stand-in captain Tim Southee each took two wickets. Shakib Al Hasan smashed 70 off 44 balls with eight fours and a six, but there was no help from the middle and lower order.
Match Highlights
Devon Conway expands on Finn Allen's foundation
Finn Allen picked up where he left off against Pakistan in the previous game, aggressively attacking Bangladesh's bowlers from the opening over. He blasted two sixes and three boundaries off Ebadot Hossain's third over. Shoriful Islam caught the skier at midwicket in the fifth over, and Allen was out.
Conway's promising start was subsequently turned into a massive score. In his 40-ball 64, the left-hander controlled his 82-run second-wicket stand with Martin Guptill, striking five fours and three sixes. Guptill too looked good near the finish of his 27-ball 34.
Glenn Phillips' show
Phillips had the proper foundation to take on Bangladesh in the final five overs, thanks to New Zealand's top three. In the 16th over, he hit Shakib for two sixes, both slog-swept. Mohammad Saifuddin removed Conway and Mark Chapman in four balls in the next over. Still, Phillips persisted, hitting Shoriful Islam and Saifuddin for successive sixes to achieve a half-century off 19 balls. Phillips' strike rate of 250 ranks third among New Zealand batters who have scored more than 60 runs in a T20I inning.
Michael Bracewell continues to dazzle
Milne bowled well on his return from a niggle, and Bracewell continued to impress after his sparse returns in the previous two games. Bracewell took two wickets and completed a challenging catch on the boundary after winning Player-of-the-Match honors in the previous two games.
On Thursday, October 13th, Pakistan will face Bangladesh.
