IPL 2022: Players who can achieve six-sixes triumphs in this edition

The 15th edition has already started grabbing enthusiasm among Indian cricket fans.

Indian Premier League,since its inception, has seen 8620 sixes by eight teams till 2021. Mumbai Indians have been the most six-hitting team, with 1308 sixes in 217 matches, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore 1275 sixes in 211 matches.

IPL 2018 alone saw 872 Sixes which is the highest in any season. Though CSK won the title that year, Indian youngster Rishabh Pant (Delhi Daredevils) won the Maximum Sixes Award for hitting 37 Sixes in that IPL season.

Everyone remembers the power, excitement, and thrill each of us had when Yuvraj smashed 6 sixes in the T20 World Cup against Stuart Broad.

We have never been able to witness such a thrill in the biggest carnival of cricket on the planet - IPL yet.

The feat of hitting six sixes in an over has been seen in international cricket, but hasn’t been witnessed in IPL ever since its inception.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

One of the best finds of IPL 2020, the Chennai Super Kings opening batter, won the orange cap for scoring most runs (635) in the previous edition of IPL.

He had a strike rate of 136.26, 23 sixes and 64 boundaries in 16 innings played.

After playing for 20 lacs in three seasons, the player became one of the retained players for INR 6 crore for Chennai Super Kings.

He keeps potential of hitting sixes in most of the directions and thus can be one of the players who can etch this record in the ongoing season.

Andre Russell

KKR, as a franchise, has a reputation of scoring and fetching runs mainly through boundaries, which is why it carries one of the best strike rates among franchises.

In IPL 2019, Andre Russell snatched the maximum sixes award by hitting 52 sixes to win the best sixes award of the tournament.

He is one of the most powerful strikers, irrespective of the format he’s playing for. He has a strike rate of 178.57 and 143 sixes off 70 innings played in IPL so far. The franchise for INR 12 crore retained him.

Nicholas Pooran

The West Indies wicket-keeper batter is one of the greatest strikers with a strike rate of 154.99.

He has scored 606 runs in 31 innings of IPL career. He had his best phase in 2020, where he hit 25 sixes in 14 matches.

After representing Punjab Kings for three years, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 10.75 crores.

With the exemplary level of performance, he has all the tools to hit sixes in an over.

Glenn Maxwell

The Australian all-rounder who currently represents the Bangalore franchise in the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League has found a fresh surge of energy and is performing at his classic best. After being bought for INR 14.25 crore in 2021, he got retained by the franchise for INR 11 crore.

The 2021 edition of the league saw Maxwell amass 513 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of 144.10, amassing 21 sixes in 14 innings.

In his overall IPL career, he has 112 sixes and 166 boundaries in 93 innings.

Hardik Pandya

The captain of the new franchise Gujarat Titans has the potential to hit gigantic sixes in IPL.

The player was purchased for INR 15 crore by the new franchise. With his massive strikes, he has helped the franchise win many matches. He has smashed 98 sixes in 85 innings and played with a strike rate of 153.91.

He has amazing figures of 98 sixes and 97 fours in his IPL career. Over time, Hardik Pandya has proven to be a hard-hitting batsman who can score six sixes in an over in IPL 2022 if he wants to, thus being a prime contender for it.

Though hitting six sixes in an over is a very ardent role. It requires lots of muscle, power and temperament to strike all 6 balls to a boundary over the ropes.
