Arshdeep Singh, The unnoticed Punjab king's left-arm Fast bowler turned out to be the right choice for selectors of the Punjab kings
In recent times, various new leagues have given a great opportunity to young talent to flourish their skills. Arshdeep Singh is a young talent from the lands of Madhya Pradesh who has set everyone in awe with his extraordinary bowling performance in the Indian Premier League. Arshdeep Singh became famous after being part of the Indian U-19 squad, which won the 2018 World Cup. Although he played only two games in the tournament, he still impressed everyone with his unique bowling skills and pace.
Noticeable performance since ever
The left-arm pacer was born in a typical family in Madhya Pradesh, where his father worked as Chief Security Officer. He was fond of cricket from childhood and started playing leather ball cricket at the age of 13 at GNPS School, Chandigarh. Due to his relentless hard work and dedication to cricket, Arshdeep got promoted further to play at various levels. He played for Chandigarh in the Punjab Inter-District ODI championship. He took 19 wickets in 5 matches in the DP Azad trophy.
After a sensational performance in Challenger Trophy, Arshdeep got selected for the U-19 World-Cup squad. Talking about his noteworthy performance, he took a hattrick in CK Nayudu Trophy, which brought him into the selector’s eyes. He also grabbed eight wickets for the U-23 team.
From Ranji to IPL
Arshdeep made his first-class debut for Punjab in Ranji Trophy. He turned out to be a great success for the team. Due to his efficient bowling and fierce mindset, he was selected by Punjab Kings in 2018. He made his debut in 2019 for Punjab Kings and emerged as a very efficient bowler. In his first match for Punjab Kings, he accounted for two big guns of RR, Jos Buttler, and Ajinkya Rahane. It turned out to be an eventful debut for the youngster. However, he did not get to play many matches and was out for many following games. He was back again a couple of matches later to play against SRH.
The left-arm pacer has a potent of constantly bowling at more than 145 kmph, which leaves every opponent wholly stunned! His perfect Yorkers impressed all cricket experts and were praised by everyone. By the end of his first year, he had only played three matches and taken three wickets. In these few matches, he had been impressive enough to be considered one of Punjab Kings’ main bowlers in the next season. After several outstanding performances in IPL, Arshdeep Singh was named as a net bowler for the Indian team’s tour of Sri Lanka. He was part of the squad for the last two matches of the T20 series after a positive Covid case.
Learning from the best
Michell Starc, the attacking Australian pacer, has always been Arshdeep’s idol. Following his left arm bowling style, Arshdeep has developed significant swing variation with perfect seamed up bowling. His time with ‘gurus’ such as Anil Kumble, Damien Wright, and Jonty Rhodes have nourished his cricket quite well.
Due to his furious bowling pace and confident attitude on the field, the left-arm pacer is now being looked up to as an upcoming star of Indian Cricket. His performance has been glorifying in every single match. We can definitely expect this young blood to do wonders for India with his sensation bowling skills!
