IPL 2022: 3 best finishers so far this season
IPL 2022 has seen a fair share of players who have impressed with their skills to finish an innings, Here's a look at the three best finishers of the season so far
David Miller
Over a decade since his debut, David Miller carried split opinions on his role as a finisher. Once started being known as 'Killer Miller' who would like to undergo a lean or struggling match to put a question on the title. From scoring 101* off 38 against RCB in 2013 to holding the record for joint-fastest T20I hundred, it's been a long journey and speaks volumes of his talent. Idolising Dhoni as a finisher, he has stunned everyone by replicating the finisher's role for Gujarat Titans. As a finisher, he has scored 449 runs in 15 matches, remaining not out in eight of them, and carried an average of 64.14 and strike rate of 141.19 in this season. In the qualifier match of IPL 2022, David Miller smashed 68 off 38 balls, of which 18 runs came in the first three balls of the final over. His unbelievable hitting in the chase game of 189 runs stole the win for Gujarat, making them reach the finals.
Shimron Hetmyer
Once dropped by the West Indies team due to witness issues, the left-hander went in huge demand in IPL auctions and was bagged by Rajasthan Royals for the finishing role. He played a similar role for the previous franchise Delhi Capitals and used to carry a strike rate of 168.05 and an average of 34.57, averaging at 50.17 with a strike rate of 159.26. In the initial matches of the tournament, he touched a strike rate of 196 in the death overs. Out of 13 games played, he has remained unbeaten in 7 of them to seal the wins for Rajasthan Royals. He is among the best finishers that Rajasthan Royals have ever had.
Dinesh Karthik
This season has seen a rendition for Dinesh Karthik. His former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders failed to utilise his abilities well. While returning to Royal Challengers, Bangalore has been triumphant, especially as a finisher. Over the years, he has anchored the innings, reflecting his low strike rate of 131. However, this year he is carrying a devastating strike rate of 187.28 as lower-middle order and finisher. He has pulled off many match-winning knocks for RCB. Even while getting a lower order to bat, he has scored 324 runs in 15 matches at an average of 64. In 10 of them, he remained not out to seal the game for the team. His finishing capabilities have forced selectors to bring him back into the T20 squad of India for the South Africa tour.
