India batter Shubman Gill set to miss second match at Cricket World Cup due to dengue fever
Shubman Gill has been ruled out of India's second World Cup match against Afghanistan after not recovering in time from a fever.
The opener is reported to be suffering with dengue fever and missed their first match against Australia.
"Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi," Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said in a statement.
"The opening batter, who missed the team's first fixture against Australia in Chennai, is set to miss the team's next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi.
"He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team."
There are fears that Gill will not have recovered sufficiently in time for Saturday's blockbuster clash with Pakistan in Ahmedabad.
Ishan Kishan replaced Gill at the top of the order against Australia but was dismissed for a golden duck.
Nevertheless, India started their campaign with a six-wicket win thanks to a 165-run stand between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
Afghanistan were skittled out for 156 as they fell to a six-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in their opening match.
"We know the areas we need to improve," coach Jonathan Trott, the former England batter, said in quotes reported on the ICC website.
"We've got two big games in Delhi now against India and England.
"We'll travel to Delhi, have a couple of practices, and then a big match against India and I know the boys will be really up for it."
