Cricket News: Virat Kohli  ICC rankings today across all formats?

Starting his test career in 2011, Virat Kohli always saw his graph rising with minor setbacks, which can happen to any player at any point in his career. From entering the top 100 within a few months of his play, he made it to the top 10 in early 2014

Starting to peak his test career in 2016, he occupied first ranking from August 2018 to January 2019, whereas he remained in the top 5 until he slipped to 6th place in January 2022. Currently, he ranks 12th in the latest Test ranking with a rating of 714, contrasting with the highest point of 937.

While his test career has significantly declined, he still holds the 5th spot in ODI with a rating of 744. Virat Kohli has had significant success in the 50-over format compared to the other three.

Claiming second place for the first time in 2011, he kept a hold on the first two spots until January 2022 with the highest rating of 911. After taking multiple breaks and being unable to score much with his willow, he fell to the 5th after 12 years.

The major setback in ranking visible in his career graph is in the shortest format, T20Is. From holding 1st place in the rankings and rating of 897 in the period 2014 to 2017, he fell to 4th spot in 2021.

Seeing a further decline to 9th place in February 2022, seven months later, he has slipped to 33rd place with a mere rating of 533.

The fall in his rankings invited lots of discussion and probable reasons behind it. While few called it a lack of form, some called it sheer bad luck. The truth remains, no question, reasoning or criticism could justify his poor outings.

However, the ongoing Asia Cup gave glimpses of old Virat Kohli, who can attack or anchor whatever the inning demands. Currently, he is the leading run-scorer for team India in the tournament, and fans are ecstatic with the hope of a revival of his form.
