Cricket News: IPL Franchise with Indian administration and its impact on World Cricket
The Indian Premier League has always been about the Indian fresh and raw talent competing with the best international players with the help of the best international coaches
IPL teams recruit the best international coaches for their teams. However, the Indian factor in the IPL was a bit weak regarding the coaching staff. The only Indian coach leading an IPL franchise until now was Anil Kumble of Punjab Kings.
This projects the Indian coaching department as its weakness; however, this is not the case. India has plenty of coaching staff in the domestic circuit with limited opportunity in other good leagues.
"I would like to see more Indian coaches in the IPL. It is not a true reflection of the Indian resources. I would want to see many Indians being part of the IPL as head coaches," said Anil Kumble.
With many benefits, there was one downside of international coaches getting familiar with these talents.
Kolkata Knight Riders recently announced their new head coach replaces current England test match coach Brendon McCullum.
With Chandrakant Pandit taking our one of the IPL teams, new thoughts have opened up.
KKR Appoints Chandrakant Pandit, who took MP recently to their maiden Ranji Trophy title
Two-time IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, have announced Chandrakant Pandit as their new head coach. This news came as good news to the Indian cricket community as he replaced former coach Brendon McCullum.
Venky Mysore, CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders, said, "We are very excited that Chandu is joining the Knight Riders family to lead us through the next phase of our journey. His deep commitment to what he does and his track record of success in domestic cricket is there for everyone to see. We are looking forward to his partnership with our skipper Shreyas Iyer, which promises to be an exciting one."
The Kolkata-based franchise became lucky in their second attempt to bag him in this role. They failed to bring him as Assistant coach in 2012 as Chandrakant Pandit didn't want to walk under a foreign coach.
"I met Mr Shah Rukh Khan back then but somehow I couldn't bring myself to work under a foreign coach," said Chandrakant Pandit.
Chandrakant Pandit is one of the most loved coaches in domestic cricket. He has won six-first class titles as a coach and recently pulled Madhya Pradesh's team to their maiden Ranji Trophy title. It will be interesting to see how his contribution to Kolkata Knight Riders helps them in the next IPL edition.
