Bottom teams In IPL who could Offload and Choose Players In The Next Auction
The fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League is now on its way toward the climax
All the teams are now fighting their best to reach the playoffs. We saw many breathtaking performances throughout the tournament from some teams, whereas some teams were disappointed with their poor performance. The three most successful sides in IPL history -- Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders -- are languishing at the bottom of the points table this season. These teams are almost out of the league with their terrific performance this season. However, even if these teams are almost on the brink of elimination, there is a big concern for the teams as they definitely need a potent aid for the collapsed team.
MI lost its key middle-order players in the mega auction, such as Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya. In Rohit Sharma, MI have a competent captain who has taken them to a record 5 IPL titles. But this season, after the significant reshuffle that happened before auctions, left Rohit's hands tied a bit in terms of the talent at his disposal. Mumbai Indians did retain four of their biggest match-winners in Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kieron Pollard. Still, a team needs more than four players to win consistently.
The English all-rounder Sam Curran will be a perfect fit to replace the futile services of Daniel Sams. Practically in the blue jersey, Curran will exhibit himself as a proper T20 all-rounder. MI lacks a quality leg spinner this season, which most teams have. Perhaps in such a situation, the franchise can look to sign Adam Zampa in the next auction. Regarding his buying value, the Aussie will get available at a suitable price tag. Also, as most teams have settled spin artillery, Mumbai Indians can even fetch him at his base price. Mumbai also has complications with its overseas pacers, apart from their spin bowling issues. That's why the addition of Kane Richardson could be a very beneficial purchase. Nevertheless, MI can also explore other overseas names like Tom Curran, Chris Woakes, or even Kyle Jamieson.
Despite being one of the most successful teams in the league, CSK has been scrutinised for its disappointing performances in the ongoing IPL2022. The four-time champions are on the brink of elimination with seven losses from 11 games played so far. Before the commencement of the 15th edition of the cash-rich event, CSK underwent a captaincy change which probably affected their game.
CSK needs an all-rounder who can create destruction with the bat and the ball. A perfect name that fits this criterion is Ben Stokes. The team can indeed look for this Englishman as he has the abilities of an ideal all-rounder. Apart from him, the team is also likely to go for Sam Curran as he was brilliant with his ball and bat the previous season for the franchise. Curran can pick wickets at a good pace and fires with the bat as well to add quick runs to the scoreboard. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can also try to bring Chetan Sakariya by trade with Delhi Capitals into the squad ahead of the IPL 2023. The pacer can be extremely useful for the franchise, especially on Chennai Super Kings' home ground.
Kolkata Knight Riders
A testimony to KKR's problems has been the fact that they have played 20 players in 12 games. There has been no single game where the playing XI has been retained, making the outfit look completely unsettled. With five wins in 12 matches, the team is currently in seventh place in the table. So comprehensively, if again KKR has to revive itself, then the 2023 auction could be their next focus place.
One of the critical loopholes in the KKR XI is the lack of a reliable wicketkeeper. The franchise came into the season with the likes of Sam Billings, Sheldon Jackson, and Baba Indrajith as the options. However, all have failed so far. So, in the next auction, the team can indeed look for KS Bharat as their wicket-keeping option. Rassie van der Dussen is another player KKR should target to trade before IPL 2023 Auctions. One of the weak aspects of the KKR batting attack is the lack of pace bashers. While players like Nitish Rana and Shreyas Iyer are good against spin, they sometimes struggle against the pacers. The pace attack of KKR lacks variety. There is no left-arm seam option, and having one could help the franchise. Chetan Sakariya is the perfect option for KKR here. Sakariya is not proven at death, but he has the variations to pull it off.
