Malaysia Open 2022: P V Sindhu, HS Prannoy glide into Malaysia Masters quarterfinals

Seventh seed PV Sindhu defeated World No. 32 Zhang Yi Man of China 21-12 21-10 in the second-round clash of the women's singles event. She made short work of her Chinese opponent to secure a quarterfinal spot after just 28 minutes of play.

PV Sindhu will lock horns with archnemesis Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters Super 500 event. World No. 2 Tai Tzu Ying has a win-loss record of 16-5 against the former world champion from India, including the victory over Sindhu in the Malaysia Open quarterfinals last week.

In the men's event, HS Prannoy secured a quarterfinal spot after beating Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei 21-19, 21-16. He will lock cross swords with Kanta Tsuneyama of Japan in the Last-8 on July 8.

Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap, and B Sai Praneeth lost their respective matches to bow out of the tournament.

B Sai Praneeth lost 14-21, 17-21 to Li She Feng of China after 42 minutes of play, while Parupalli Kashyap was knocked out by sixth seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia after a 10-21, 15-21 loss.

World number two Kento Momota out of Malaysia Masters

World No. 2 Kento Momota was knocked out of the Malaysia Masters after a 21-15, 21-16 loss to compatriot World No. 14 Kanta Tsuneyama in the second round on July 7.

The career of Kento Momota has been in a freefall since he was involved in a car accident two years ago. Kanta Tsuneyama started aggressively and dominated his fellow Japanese rival with accurate drop shots to secure his victory after a 50-minute clash.

Kento Momota expressed he is tired and is not at the top of his form. He said, "I have no injury, but I am exhausted from the last two weeks of tournaments. At the moment, I do not have enough reserve in my tank. I am not in the best of condition right now.
