Badminton News: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy make it to the BWF World Tour Finals
Badminton World Federation has included Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu among the eight women’s singles shuttlers to compete at the BWF World Tour Finals
Earlier, the world's no. seven PV Sindhu had decided to pull out of the Finals after suffering a stress fracture at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
She will not be participating as she is still recovering. However, she finished fifth in the race to the BWF World Tour finals and was named in the list of qualifiers.
HS Prannoy also has qualified to compete at the men’s singles event at the World Tour Finals for the first time. The 30-year-old Delhi native is the only Indian player to qualify for men’s singles as Lakshya Sen.
Kidambi Srikanth failed to secure a spot after finishing at the 11th and the 10th spot, respectively, in the race to the BWF World Tour finals.
The list was announced by Badminton World Federation after the end of the final qualifying event, the Australian Open. The season-ending BWF World Tour Finals will take place at Nimibutr Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, from 7th to 11th December.
The 2022 BWF World Tour Finals were supposed to take place in Guangzhou in China but were relocated to Thailand due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The tournament only features the top eight players in the World Tour rankings, with only a maximum of two players from each country invited to play at the end-of-the-season event.
The winners of the last season of the BWF World Tour Finals receive automatic qualification as per the rules. Players who have received direct entry at the season finale are:
Men’s singles: Viktor Axelsen of Denmark
Women’s singles: Akane Yamaguchi of Japan
Men’s doubles: Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia
Women’s doubles: Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yifan of China
Mixed doubles: Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong of China

Men’s Singles: Viktor Axelsen, Jonatan Christie, Chou Tien Chen, Kodai Naraoka, Antony Ginting, Lu Guang Zu, Loh Kean Yew, and H. S. Prannoy.
Women’s Singles: Chen Yu Fei, Akane Yamaguchi, An Se Young, PV Sindhu, Ratchanok Intanon, He Bing Jiao, Busanan Ongbamrungphan, and Tai Tzu Ying.
