Football Transfer News: Chelsea extends bumper offer to Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong has been one of the most sought-after players on the trade market this summer. It has been speculated for months that he will not leave Camp Nou, and Barcelona's inability to coerce him into leaving has added to the belief that he will remain

While Chelsea appears to be the frontrunner to sign De Jong before Thursday's deadline, Bayern Munich has also shown interest in the outstanding player.

Gerard Romero claims that the Blues have offered De Jong a net salary of £15.4 million. After De Jong was spotted boarding a flight to London, Chelsea reportedly provided him.

The arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, among others, show that Thomas Tuchel is still interested in strengthening his team.

For some time now, the Blues have been interested in the midfielder, which Thomas Tuchel has pegged as the ideal long-term alternative for an established player like N'Golo Kante.

Kante's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and at age 31, he is entering the twilight of his career.

It's highlighted the team's need for a new central midfielder, a role that de Jong can fill thanks to his admirability, a wealth of experience and skill.

In the dying hours of the transfer window, Chelsea made de Jong an offer of roughly €18 million annually to join the Premier League giants.

For the better part of the summer, speculation swirled that de Jong's desire to leave Barcelona was motivated mainly by his salary demands.

He has a very generous contract at Camp Nou, and the club owes him a tonne of money in deferred pay.

Nonetheless, Chelsea is hoping to turn the tables by providing him with a rich deal and the chance to leave Barcelona, particularly in light of the player's and the supporters' mounting displeasure.

Manchester United have all but failed in their Frenkie de Jong pursuit

Earlier in the summer, Manchester United was widely interested in signing de Jong. The United States attempted to lure de Jong to Old Trafford, but he refused to leave Barcelona.

For Manchester United, it didn't help that they didn't play in the Champions League this season.

After spending a whopping £227 million on new players, this summer, Manchester United are wrapping off their business with the loan signing of Martin Dubravka.

Antony is expected to become United's latest high-priced arrival from Ajax as part of their support for manager Erik ten Hag's planned squad overhaul. United gave ten Hag more money in a single transfer window than any United manager in the club's history.

Despite reaching a fee agreement with Barcelona, they could not convince De Jong to move to Old Trafford.

De Jong was always Ten Hag's first objective, but the signings of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Antony, and Dubravka have provided a significant boost. However, the team still has holes at right back and centre forward.

Though the Red Devils are interested in the Dutch international again, they don't expect any more signings to be made besides Dubravka before the transfer market closes on Thursday.
