Xavi: Barcelona won't risk Ousmane Dembele and Pedri with premature return
Barcelona boss Xavi has acknowledged that the club is unwilling to take any chances with Ousmane Dembele and Pedri until they are fully fit.
Dembele, who has suffered from frequent injuries during his time at Barca, had not been sidelined since Xavi took over in late 2021, but he was forced to miss games due to a hamstring issue at the end of January.
Despite his regular starting position and 10 goal contributions in La Liga, the Frenchman has missed the last 14 games in all competitions.
Pedri has been out of action due to a muscle injury since the middle of February and has missed 10 games thus far.
Xavi disclosed that both players were eager to return to training this week, but their return has been postponed because they are not yet feeling completely comfortable.
"Because the sensations are not good," said Xavi.
"This is about sensations and they were excited to participate but we don't want to take any risks. The feelings will mark their return."
On their physical condition, he added: "On a physical level, I have received data that we are the team that runs the most, we make more efforts and do more sprints.
"The injuries are normal. What team has no injuries? Here too much importance is given to injuries."
