West Ham announce new appointment on eve of blockbuster Declan Rice deal with Arsenal
Tim Steidten revealed he is 'extremely proud' after joining the Europa Conference League winners.

West Ham have announced the signing of Tim Steidten as the club's new technical director.

The German arrives at the London Stadium at a pivotal time for the club as the Irons look to make the most of a potential £105m Declan Rice transfer.

Steidten has worked in similar roles at Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg, building up a reputation for his data-driven approach.

The new arrival is set to have a busy summer as the Irons look to reinvest in the squad ahead of the new season.

Steidten said in a statement: "I am extremely proud to be joining West Ham United, at such an exciting time in this club's incredible history.

"Building on the club's recent European success, there is already a fantastic team in place, but also so much ambition - from the board, the manager, his staff and the players - to continue succeeding, developing and growing.

"I cannot wait to play a key part in that. Come on you Irons!"

West Ham are on the precipice of completing the sale of midfielder Rice who is expected to become an Arsenal player in the coming days.

The deal would make Rice the second-most expensive English player in history - £10m short of Jude Bellingham who recently completed his move to Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund.

While losing Rice is a huge blow to West Ham's midfield, it is hoped that with the expertise of Steidten, the club will be able to recruit well in the summer.

The German is expected to work closely with manager David Moyes and sporting director Mark Noble.
