Spurs Still Interested in Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is reportedly being targetted by the fourth-placed Antonio Conte led side Tottenham Hotspurs.

    Christian Eriksen Christian Eriksen

The 30-year-old who played for Tottenham Hotspur between 2013-and 2020, exited the team to join Inter Milan. However, he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark in EURO 2020 last summer and shortly after, his Inter contract liquified due to Serie A rules. He subsequently struck a short-term deal with Brentford until the end of the current season which does not include any option of the Bees initiating an extension.

Eriksen: A Player With Immense Strength

Eriksen has delivered an exceptional performance at Brentford just six months after the cardiac-arrest incident. He has significantly helped Thomas Frank’s side climb to a secure rank for another season and they are currently fourteen points above the drop zone. The club requires a playmaker, a conclusion birthed from Saturday’s defeat at home to Brighton. The Spurs usually rely on Harry Kane to make lethal strikes but

the opponent remained untainted by his efforts from kick-off so Eriksen's entry might provide more substance to their gameplay.

With Conte's persistent efforts to raise Spurs the ranks, they have a fair chance of finishing in the top four, which was a long shot during the Jose Mourinho and Nuno tenures. As Conte attempts to bind his team with strength and solidarity, the club will be eyeing new wingbacks and central defenders. Eriksen’s skills are nothing new for Spurs fans. He is a player who can break into solid defence with his passing and act as a pillar to the team.

Under former Spurs boss Pochettino, Eriksen's midfielders skills shot up. Pochettino positioned Eriksen in a central attacking position and let him take control of the match, place things together, initiate passes in either direction, push passes into the box and score from different angles. With Conte as his potential coach, creativity is a product of the collective efforts of the whole team rather than relying on individual players. Eriksen is technical enough to groove to the rhythm of Conte's game manipulative tactics. Eriksen's game lacks too many weaknesses and is known for being skilled in many areas of football.

Will Eriksen's Possible Entry Change Things for the Spurs?

After the life-threatening cardiac arrest in the EUROs, no one expected the Bees to win five out of their last six matches. So whichever club he joins, Eriksen is expected to create a wave. Not only is he free in the summer, but he also is experienced playing different roles and set-ups under Conte, checks all the qualities needed to play at the Premier League level and is capable of taking Spurs to the next level. So his potential return to north London after a long phase at Inter Milan remains to be seen.
