New Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag eyes top Barcelona talent; wants to beat them for £50 million worth Ruben Neves
Erik ten Hag asked Manchester United to beat Arsenal and Barcelona to make a deal with Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves
It has only been a week since Ten Hag took control of the Old Trafford-based club, and he has already identified his targets for this summer's transfer window.
The Eredivisie winner with Ajax is looking to sign a new striker and midfielder and has identified Neves among his top targets.
Portugal international Neves has made over 200 appearances for Wolves. He has been a key player at Molineux ever since he departed from Porto in 2017.
According to reports, Erik ten Hag is a 'big fan' of Ruben Neves, who has also been Barcelona's target. And his side will make every effort to sign the Wolves' player.
Before this summer, the midfielder was linked to Man United and Arsenal. The Wolves valued Neves at around £40m at the beginning of the year but now want close to £50m for their Portuguese star. His contract with the Wolves runs up until 2024.
Over the past few seasons, Neves has been a bright spot for the Premier League side.
Reports from The Sun indicate that Manchester United are "on the verge of making a final push to sign" Neves.
Manchester United had their £35 million offer rejected earlier this year, but they are "looking to go again in the next couple of weeks."
Barcelona are also in the running to sign Neves and can offer him Champions League football, unlike Manchester United. At the same time, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is believed to be a fan and keen to bring him to the Emirates. Ten Hag is pushing to sign Neves as he is the new manager's "number one midfield target."
In pursuit of a midfielder, Erik Ten Hag ramps up Barcelona's Frankie de Jong hunt
According to ESPN, Manchester United will be testing Barcelona's resolve to keep Frenkie De Jong at Camp Nou, despite questions about whether they are the first choice for the midfielder if he leaves the Catalonians.
Manchester United is looking for a midfielder in the summer, and De Jong is one of the top names being considered.
Although he played a major role in Barcelona's last season, Old Trafford has been hinted that the LaLiga giants might have to sell the Netherlands international to finance their summer transfer business.
De Jong would need to be convinced to join Manchester United, especially after the Red Devils dropped out of the Champions League. However, such a move has not been ruled out completely.
Also, it is in the public domain that Manchester City is moving away from De Jong and instead focusing on Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United as a replacement.
On the other hand, Barcelona is already searching for De Jong's replacements. The transfer fee is estimated to be about £75 million.
Manchester United is unlikely to comply with these terms. They would need to negotiate a lower fee. However, there is some hope that Barcelona's financial situation might allow for compromise.
