England was humiliated by Hungary after a four-goal thrashing. Southgate under spotlight
Hungary won against England 4-0 in a UEFA Nations League match at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, on June 15.
It was a night of humiliation for Euro 2020 finalists England as they suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hand of visitors. In contrast, it was a memorable night for the Hungarian squad, who recorded their first away victory against England since 1953.
England controlled the ball in the opening half of the match. However, Hungary opened the scoring and took the lead with a free kick taken by Roland Sallai. The English attackers tried hard to equalize but failed to get past the Hungarian defence, while Reece James headed off a shot by Hungary to deny them another goal.
In the second set, Roland Sallai slotted the ball into the net again to double Hungary's lead. The goal shook the English defence, and things went from bad to worse as they lost their footing. Zsolt Nagy scored in the 80th minute to further increase the lead for Hungary. Dániel Gazdag added another with just one minute left on the clock to secure a 4-0 victory for the visitors.
After the loss, the head coach of England, Gareth Southgate, said, "We can't concede a goal after 30 seconds of the game. It's our mistake. We lacked aggression. We would have preferred to stay top of the group, but I have always said that the decisive match will be against Spain.
