Tottenham full-back Matt Doherty heading to La Liga as Atletico Madrid agree loan deal
Having failed to secure regular playing time under manager Antonio Conte, Tottenham full-back Matt Doherty is heading out on loan.
The 31-year-old will join Atletico Madrid until the end of the season as he looks to aid their top four hopes.
The Colchoneros have endured a disappointing campaign and are already out of all cup competitions - including the Champions League and Copa del Rey.
Manager Diego Simeone is under growing pressure, though a strong finish to their league campaign would certainly make up for their struggles elsewhere.
Following back-to-back La Liga victories, Atletico are currently fourth in the table and sit three points above Villarreal and Real Betis.
Doherty will be looking to play a big role in this second half of the season after failing to get much game time with Spurs.
The Republic of Ireland international has only made 44 Premier League appearances since joining Tottenham in 2020.
Doherty arrived in North London from Wolves where he became a key member of the squad after helping the club from the lows of League One to the heights of the Europa League.
