Tuchel commits to Chelsea until end of the season

Owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government on Thursday and although Chelsea have been granted a special license to see out the season, it comes with severe restrictions.

These include the inability to sell tickets or merchandise to fans, as well as not being able to sign or re-sign players.

Furthermore, their travel spending has been capped, which could pose a real threat to their Champions League campaign.

The Blues did not let their off-the-field issues distract them on Sunday though as they defeated Newcastle United 1-0 in the Premier League to secure their fifth successive win.

This has seen them cement their position of third place in the table.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel said, "For sure, there's no doubt I stay until the end of the season. Absolutely.

"We have to wait day by day because everything can change but the situation is clear: the club is for sale and hopefully it will go through to sort things out and give us some perspective. It's pure speculation and I have no further information than you already have.

"Day by day is a good way to live your life and now we're forced to do it because there are circumstances we can't influence. In some ways, that's not so nice but it gives you the freedom to focus on the things you can influence, which is our performances and show the spirit.

"The focus is on the first team - but Chelsea is much more than the first team in the Premier League. It's a massive club with huge tradition and hundreds and hundreds of people and for them it's important we show the spirit, give them a distraction and show them what we're about."

Chelsea are next in action in the Champions League on Wednesday, looking to take advantage of their 2-0 aggregate lead over Lille in order to qualify for the last-eight of the competition.

They then travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday looking to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
