The Four Liverpool Players Currently Set to leave For Free in the Summer
Liverpool is ready to see four players off prior to this year's summer transfer. Because fans of the club are attached to all the players in the squad including the sitter to the celebrated Premier League starter.
So bidding farewell to some of these beloved players will be a tough feat. As their summer contracts run out, Liverpool will most likely splurge on new players to rebuild the team. Likewise, they will have to dive head-first into the transfer market to replace the players who exit for free. Here is a list of four players with expiring Liverpool contracts, and the possible ways the upcoming transfer could play out!
Divock Origi
The news will come as a blow to Liverpool fans but the composed forward Origi is most probably exiting Anfield at the end of the season. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the striker might join Serie A side AC Milan, where opportunities will be plenty. Looking back, he is reputed as a habitual match-winner which was reinforced by his 96th-minute score against Everton. The monumental “corner taken quickly” goal, and his Champions League final goal against Barcelona turned him into a reliable last-minute substitute. “Divock Origi is an incredible football player,” Jurgen Klopp remarked earlier in the 2021-2022 season. “He is great in these moments, he doesn’t need a lot of run-up or time to find into a game. When Div scores the goal it makes it even better, to be honest.”
Loris Karius
The 28-year-old is a goalkeeper and has played countless seasons of professional football in various leagues. Despite his average performance after his recent loan at Union Berlin, Liverpool fans believe in the German footballer. Similar to Simon Mingolet's impressive growth at Club Brugge, Karius is also expected to improve.
Adrian
Apart from Karius, Liverpool will bid farewell to another goalkeeper for free in the summer. Adrian's departure seems like a sure shot considering how Caomhin Kelleher's skills have impressed Klopp who prefers him over Karius as the second-choice goalkeeper. Liverpool might look for a new third-choice goalkeeper but hardcore fans might remember Adrian's exceptional moments after he was signed for free in 2020. His performance during the shootout against Chelsea won Liverpool the UEFA Super Cup as he saved Tammy Abraham’s penalty to push his team to victory. The 35-year-old may have a tough future considering his age.
James Milner
Milner has been one of the most loyal players in Liverpool since walking into Anfield from Manchester City back in the summer of 2015. However, the 36-year-old's playing time has significantly reduced having started just 12 games in all events in 2021-22. There is a fair chance of Milner being retained for the 2022-23 season but it is not set in writing and his current contract is to end with the conclusion of the 2021-22 campaign. “There are talks, but as always, we usually don’t comment further on that. There’s no reason for it,” Klopp remarked in February. “But of course, I’m in talks, the club is in talks, with Milly. We will see.”
