Switzerland had a great start to the match as Haris Seferovic scored just 57 seconds into the game after receiving a perfect pass from Silvan Widmer. Swiss keeper Jonas Omlin made some great saves to keep the attacks by Danilo and Bernardo Silva at bay. Switzerland marked their first victory after losing their previous three games.
In a post-match interview, Portugal coach Fernando Santos said, "We can't concede a goal after 30 seconds of the game. It's our mistake. We lacked aggression. We would have preferred to stay top of the Group, but I have always said that the decisive match will be against Spain.
Spain beats the Czech Republic
The Spanish football squad won against the Czech Republic 2-0 in a UEFA Nations League match at La Rosaleda Stadium in Malaga, Spain, on June 13.
Carlos Soler in the 24th minute and Pablo Sarabia in the 75th minute were the goalscorers for Spain, while none of the Czech Republic could score.
Carlos Soler opened the scoring for Spain in the 24th minute after receiving a perfect pass from Real Madrid Striker Marco Asensio. The Czech Republic tried to equalize, but the Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon made some fine saves to maintain the lead for Spain. Pablo Sarabia added another goal in the 75th minute to make it 2-0 for the hosts, sealing their victory.
Spain was dominant throughout the match and controlled 76% of the ball and had a pass accuracy of 89% compared to the 24% possession and 74% pass accuracy of the Czech Republic.
In a post-match interview, Carlos Soler said, "I hope to return in the next international window and go to the World Cup. But now I only think of going on vacation. It's been a very tough season, which started with the Tokyo Olympics. I have made many dreams come true, but I hope to make many more come true.
Spain now sits at the second spot in Group A2 with eight points from four games, one point ahead of Portugal at the second spot. Spain will next lock horns with Switzerland on September 25.
