Premier League: Review - Arsenal moves to the top of the table after a 3-0 win over Brentford
Mikel Arteta's flourishing Arsenal climb to the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 win at Brentford. William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira scored brilliant goals that led the Gunners to their sixth Premier League win
15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, in the meantime, became the league's youngest-ever player. Brentford manager Thomas Frank referred to them as title contenders as Fabio Vieira's goal increased their lead and helped seal a 3-0 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Vieira, who started his Premier League season by replacing an injured Martin Odegaard, threw in a long-range attempt in the 49th minute after William Saliba opened the scoring with a near-post header.
Arsenal suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Brentford on the opening day of the last season, but the Gunners turned the tables this time. The victory has pushed them atop the table and a point clear of Manchester City and Tottenham.
"It was a well-deserved win for them," Frank divulged. "You can see how hard they worked. I think they will do brilliantly. I think they compete for the title now."
Arsenal then deployed Ethan Nwaneri at stoppage time, and the fresh academy player scripted history in the Premier League as the youngest player to compete in the event. He only turned 15 in March.
Frank Lampard's Everton won the first Premier League game of the season
Everton wins their first Premier League match and moves up to 13th. West Ham is in the relegation zone now after bearing another unfortunate defeat in the Premier League.
After a move from Brighton, Neal Maupay scored their first goal as an Everton player. For Frank Lampard, the win is a "big deal" for Everton, positioned towards the bottom with four draws and two losses before the Sunday game.
The Toffees beat West Ham 1-0 to secure their first Premier League victory. Neal Maupay scored a half-volley in the 53rd minute that pulled the home crowd into rapture after having endured an uneventful first half.
Everton could have been equalised if West Ham substitute Said Benrahma's deflected left-foot shot hadn't bounced off the post in the second half.
However, Everton has maintained consecutive league clean sheets for the first time in over a year. After the win, manager Lampard said, "At this moment, it is massive for us to get a win. Hopefully, we will get better but to get a win today was a big deal for us."
West Ham couldn't match their opponent's energy after Thursday night's 3-2 victory over Danish side Silkeborg in the Europa Conference League. As of now, they are 18th on the table.
Moyes shared that they weren't good in the match. "Today we found out little bits [about the new signings], but it was mainly the players I know about - they are the ones who let me down with poor play overall," lamented the coach.
