Premier League News: Harry Kane scores a brace for Tottenham and Hammers win as Pablo Fornals scores
Harry Kane's brace on Sunday earned Tottenham a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest in a thrilling Premier League clash. Kane scored in each half and levelled with Andrew Cole on 187 Premier League goals
The English player currently trails Alan Shearer (260) and Wayne Rooney (208) as he made sure his team remains unbeaten in the season. Antonio Conte's Spurs silenced the home ground by scoring after just five minutes.
Dejan Kulusevski made a pass to the England captain, who hit the bottom corner of the net from a distance of 20 yards. Tottenham created many chances in the first half but couldn't convert them.
Kane was tackled and denied a goal, and he later made a wide hit as Forest increased the pressure on the Spurs. Five minutes before the half-time break, Jesse Lingard stopped Harry Toffolo's cross to Morgan Gibbs-White, but couldn't convert.
Tottenham earned a penalty eight minutes into the second half as Steve Cook violated Ivan Perisic. The VAR examined whether Cook should have been sent off the pitch, but Craig Pawson's decision to book the defender stood instead.
Dean Henderson jumped to his right during the penalty to fend off Kane's powerful kick. It marked the first time Kane missed a spot-kick Kane for Tottenham since February 2018.
Forest could have equalised had it not been for Neco Williams, who sent a shot wide at the far post. The visitors then increased their lead with nine minutes on the clock.
Richarlison sent over a brilliant cross headed by Kane into an empty net.
Hammers win as Pablo Fornals scores their first goal of the season
Pablo Fornals earned West Ham their first Premier League victory of the season with a 1-0 win at Aston Villa as Steven Gerrard's side continues to struggle.
David Moyes' men were at the bottom of the rankings before their goal-drought ended after a rugged first-half performance. Fornals' deflected shot went past Emiliano Martinez, and West Ham took the lead in the 74th minute.
Tyrone Mings was benched due to an illness, and Steven Gerrard made four changes in the lineup. Calum Chambers, Philippe Coutinho, Douglas Luiz, and Danny Ings were included in the starting XI.
David Moyes believes his second-half substitutions caused West Ham to pluck a tough win against Aston Villa, who won just two of their final 11 matches last season.
As the Hammers entered the west Midlands to face Aston Villa on Sunday, they were the only team in English football's top four divisions without a single goal in the league.
They grew into the game, though, and Said Benrahma's entry and a change in formation caused an impact. Benrahma initiated solid moves for his team in the second half, and Kurt Zouma was also impressed.
Pablo Fornals' deflected strike landed their first win and raised their morale before their slated London derbies against Tottenham and Chelsea.
Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta's arrival will also benefit West Ham before they tackle Spurs on Wednesday.
