Premier League: Manchester United will extend the contract of England striker Marcus Rashford with a 12-month option
Manchester United will introduce a clause in Marcus Rashford's contract if they fail to extend it. His contract with Old Trafford will expire in June this year
Fortunately, the Red Devils will have the option of extending it by 12 months. However, the forward has not disclosed his plans. He did not have a memorable 2021/22 campaign, having netted only five times in all competitions.
As a consequence, he was overlooked by England coach Gareth Southgate. However, under Erik ten Hag, the 24-year-old seems to be slowly regaining his mojo.
He netted three goals and registered two assists in six Premier League games this season, increasing his chances of being shortlisted in England's World Cup squad.
United wants to establish a five-year contract with Rashford. He joined Old Trafford as a seven-year-old in 2005, and ever since, he rose through the ranks and has made 309 appearances for the team to date.
Paris Saint-Germain is currently keeping an eye on Rashford. His late win against the French side caused their elimination from the Champions League in March 2019.
He scored another winner against them 18 months later in the group stages. The clause will be activated on Christmas if no new deal is reached.
If they fail to do so, they will discuss a pre-contract agreement with the overseas club in the winter transfer window. Due to his recent muscle injury, he was excluded from Gareth Southgate's England squad for the September friendlies.
Rashford, as of now, earns £180,000 a week at Old Trafford.
Cristiano Ronaldo charged by FA with misconduct
Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned by Football Association (FA) after being charged with "improper and/or violent conduct" over a phone incident at Goodison Park in April 2022.
Ronaldo had slapped a mobile phone from a young Everton fan during a match that took place on April 9 after Everton's 1-0 win at Goodison Park.
Ronaldo appeared to slap a mobile phone out of a 14 year old fan's hand as he walked off the pitch following United's 1-0 loss to Everton on April 9. The video that soon became viral was released on the internet, prompting Ronaldo to throw in an apology through his Instagram account a day later.
It said, "I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship."
The concerned Everton fan dismissed the invitation. The Portuguese evaded arrest but a warning was issued in August this year. However, the FA has decided to take action.
If he is declared guilty by English soccer's governing body, Ronaldo could be fined and temporarily banned from the sport. FA released a statement "It is alleged that the forward's conduct after the final whistle was improper and violent."
United will play against Everton at Goodison Park again on October 9, 2022.
