Premier League: Manchester United down table toppers Arsenal as Antony scores debut goal
Former Ajax player Antony nudged his team towards their fourth consecutive win by scoring his debut goal as the Red Devils beat Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford
The forward, who switched clubs on transfer deadline day, believes it is "just the beginning" as the Brazilian international was deployed into the starting XI by their manager Erik ten Hag.
Antony replaced Anthony Elanga, Jadon Sancho was positioned on the left, and the new entry started at the right wing. The 22-year-old converted a clean attempt in the 34th minute.
He caught a pass by Marcus Rashford and sent it low past Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Ronaldo was called in as Antony made his exit 13 minutes into the second half.
Two minutes later, Arsenal equalised through Bukayo Saka. Much to the Gunners' dismay, Rashford netted twice to serve his side a well-curated victory.
After the match, Antony took to Twitter to express his joy, "What an incredible day! A huge thanks to all the MU staff and my teammates!!" he reflected.
Ten Hag was in pursuit of Antony throughout the summer. "I know what he can be; I talked before the game. We needed that in the right wing. With his pace, his dribbles, his pressing capabilities, he's really good with that, we've seen that," relayed the Dutch boss.
Although he is insistent that Antony's form could be better, he believes that the young star has immense potential waiting to be untapped.
It remains to be seen whether the team could benefit from Antony's arrival. On September 11, Crystal Palace will host the Red Devils at Selhurst Park.
