Premier League: Manchester United 1-0 Leicester City, Jadon Sancho scores
Manchester United are building on their recovery with a third back-to-back victory after Jadon Sancho converted to extend Leicester's dry run at the current Premier League season
The Foxes are now at the bottom of the table, and Erik ten Hag wants to bolster the squad further. Sancho netted his second goal this season 23 minutes into the game.
United, now ranked fifth, above Liverpool and Chelsea, crushed Leicester's weak defensive positioning, allowing the winger to score. Goalkeeper Danny Ward sent the ball into the United half, and Diogo Dalot received it.
Bruno Fernandes passed the ball to Rashford and found an opening toward Sancho, whose immediate touch sent the ball around Ward and into the net.
The fans criticised Leicester's dull performance with added pressure on manager Brendan Rodgers as the current season witnessed their worst start since 1994.
Ten Hag wishes to see more improvement
Although United has improved after heavy defeats against Brighton and Brentford, Ten Hag is still concerned about Sunday's clash against table-toppers Arsenal.
"Maybe it's too quick to say [we have turned a corner]," the manager said. "We have to step it up further, and Sunday will be a really good game, a really good test, so we're looking forward."
Cristiano Ronaldo, desperate to depart the club this season, was benched again. Leicester was deprived of action in the United box early into the game.
However, the Foxes charged into the second half with more purpose, eager to destroy United's record of not losing for eight years. David de Gea, who powered into a flying save, blocked James Maddison's powerful attempt to score.
Ten Hag deployed Casemiro and want-away forward Cristiano Ronaldo later into the match. The Portuguese made a shot wide late, followed by James Justin, who struck from inside the United box but failed to convert.
"I felt we were quite solid. It was a quite solid performance, we had to defend with 11, and we did that very well," said Ten Hag. "Casemiro and Ronny will get fitter and contribute more to the team, so we need not only a team but a squad," the Dutch boss added.
He sent forward an unchanged lineup that lacked Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire, but it worked in their favour. Bruno Fernandes is the skipper, and Lisandro Martinez replaced Maguire on the defence's left.
On the other hand, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers remarked that he is happy about closing the transfer window. "It's been a huge distraction for us," stated Rodgers.
"I think it's clear to see [that the squad is weaker than last year]. I came to Leicester to compete and in the first few years we were able to do that but in the last couple of windows, we've been unable to add to the squad," he continued.
