Premier League : Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli's efforts maintain the Gunners' rhythm
Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli scored in each half to glory to Arsenal as they maintained their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa
The visitors have slipped into the relegation zone, and their boss Steven Gerrard is under immense pressure. The visiting defenders panicked whenever Arsenal hurried forward in the first half.
Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka missed chances before Jesus netted his third goal of the season. Former Gunner Emi Martinez stopped Jesus and Martinelli from widening the lead.
Villa scored shortly after as substitute Douglas Luiz sent in a corner reminiscent of his Carabao Cup goal against Bolton last week. However, Arsenal responded quickly as Martinelli converted Saka's cross in the 77th minute.
They fended off a risky corner from Leon Bailey towards the end to retain their position as table toppers. Although Gerrard's team improved in the second half, four defeats from five games this season have raised concerns for Villa.
On Saturday, they are to face Pep Guardiola's fierce side Manchester City at Villa Park. "I don't like how the table looks," said Gerrard. "I think it is natural that the pressure builds.
"I take full responsibility for that and I won't shirk away from anything." The Gunners will now visit Old Trafford to tackle Manchester United on Sunday.
Gabriel Jesus has been a part of six goals in his first five Premier League matches for Arsenal - 3 goals, three assists, and became the first player in Arsenal to have achieved it in the first five games.
