Premier League: Diego Dalot's new contract with Manchester United and Slaven Bilic returns
Diogo Dalot might receive a new contract offer from Manchester United amidst offers from European clubs. The right-back was deployed in the lineup for all eight United matches in the current Premier League season
He also netted twice during Portugal's 4-0 victory over the Czech Republic last week. The 23-year-old is currently monitored by Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Roma.
Dalot is serving the last year of his contract at Old Trafford, but United will reportedly extend his contract before the January transfer window closes.
He was loaned out to Ac Milan on a season-long transfer in 2020 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager. After the Norwegian was sacked in November last year, Dalot replaced Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Dalot enjoyed significant game time with United last term, having started 24 games, and in the previous two years, he remained free of injury. United manager Erik ten Hag deployed Dalot in the starting lineup of the first five friendlies during pre-season.
Wan-Bissaka, on the other hand, was about to be offloaded, but United are forced to keep the £ 50 million right-back due to a lack of takers. Dalot's loan spell with AC Milan elicited a call-up from the Portugal national squad for the European Championship.
Slaven Bilic appointed new Watford Manager
Former Croatia coach Slaven Bilić has been announced as the new manager of Watford Football Club. Bilić's contract is reported to last for eighteen months, according to the agreement, after he is handed his relevant work permit.
The decision was made on Monday when the club declared the sacking of Rob Edwards, the head coach of Watford. The Croatian flies to the UK after a brief period spent without a job after he departed the Chinese club Beijing Guoa at the beginning of the year.
Bilić has become Watford's 17th permanent manager in the past decade, and the new coach has already mentored two clubs in the UK, starting from West Ham and then moving to West Bromwich Albion.
He coached West Ham for two-and-a-half years (2015-17), finishing seventh and 11th in the Premier League. He also led West Brom to promotion from the Championship in 2019/20 after taking charge in June 2019.
Meanwhile, Watford was relegated from the Premier League last season and is currently ranked 10th in the Championship. Now, all hopes are on Bilić as Watford is gearing up for their next match away at Stoke FC this weekend.
Besides his experiences in England and China, the 54-year-old Croatian has gained experience in Croatia, Turkey, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
Bilic's playing career combined 74 Premier League appearances for West Ham and Everton before his managerial stint at Hajduk Split in 2001.
He then mentored the Croatia national team for six years, and his side is remembered for topping a Euro 2008 qualifying group that England failed to emerge from.
After ten games, he has joined Watford, ranked 10th in the EFL Championship table.
"In Slaven Bilić, we have secured the services of an experienced coach who has recent experience of promotion to the Premier League," the club announced.
