Premier League big clash Liverpool vs Manchester City
Manchester City hosted Liverpool at the Manchester City Stadium on April 10 for one of the most anticipated matches in Premier League history.
Manchester City is looking to retain their Premier League title. But Liverpool has caught up on the rankings and is just one point behind City on the table. Both the teams are the top contenders in the race to win the greatest football prize in England.
Kevin De Bruyene in the 5th minute and Gabriel Jesus in the 36th minute were the goal scorers for Manchester City, while Diogo Jota in the 13th minute and Sadio Mane in the 46th minute scored for Liverpool.
Three Goals in First Half
It was a fascinating match as the first half produced three goals. Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for Manchester City in the sixth minute when a distant shot from a free-kick deflected off the post into the net. However, Diago Jota scored the equalizer for Liverpool taking the score to 1-1 just seven minutes later. Gabriel Jesus scored the second goal for Manchester City in the 36th minute. He was the only one of five Manchester City players who wasn’t offside when João Cancelo sent a cross inside the box. Jesus sneaked behind the Liverpool goalkeeper Allison Becker and skillfully converted it into a goal, giving Manchester City a 2-1 lead going into the halftime.
Liverpool started the second half aggressively, scoring within just one minute. Mohammed Salah sent a curled-through ball for Sadio Mané. Kyle Walker tried to beat Mané to the ball but failed. Mane’ took the shot and sent the ball into the net past the Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson equalizing the scores again.
Algerian winger Riya Mahrez almost won the match for Manchester City in the extra time, but he chipped it over the goalpost. The much-awaited battle between two of the greatest English clubs ended with both the squads evenly matched 2-2.
Manchester City and Liverpool both have seven more matches left to play. The top two contenders proved that they are equally worthy of winning the Premier League title.
Both the squads will lock horns again in the FA Cup semifinals at Wembley Stadium on April 16.
