Premier League: Arsenal beats Leicester City as Gabriel Jesus scores but still "disappointed"
Arsenal won against Leicester City 4-2 in a Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium in London, the United Kingdom, on August 13, 2022
Within the regulation time, Gabriel Jesus in the 23rd and 35th minutes, Granit Xhaka in the 55th minute and Gabriel Martinelli in the 75th minute were the goalscorers for Arsenal.
In contrast, Arsenal defender William Saliba scored an own goal accidentally, and James Maddison scored for Leicester City in the 74th minute.
Leicester City started the opening half aggressively as Wesley Fofana and Gabriel Martinelli broke past the Arsenal defence, but Arsenal discovered their rhythm and took control soon after.
The 25-year-old Brazillian striker scored again to double the lead for Arsenal with an excellent close ranged shot, following a corner attempt by Granit Xhaka. The first half ended with Arsenal leading 2-0.
Leicester City got their first goal just eight minutes into the second half when a long ball by James Justin into the Arsenal box was accidentally headed into the bottom corner of the goal by Arsenal defender William Saliba.
Just two minutes later, Granit Xhaka regained the two-goal lead for Arsenal with a well-placed pass from Gabriel Jesus. Leicester City launched a counterattack as Kelechi Iheanacho ran towards the Arsenal goal.
The 25-year-old English midfielder slotted the ball past Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to narrow the deficit to 3-2.
Arsenal maintained their composure and regained their two-goal advantage once again when Gabriel Martinelli made it 4-2 with a low-level shot with the assistance of Gabriel Jesus.
Arsenal emerged victorious with an impressive score of 4-2. Gabriel Jesus gave a monumental performance and played a crucial role in all four goals to secure the victory for Arsenal.
The coach was elated by Gabriel's performance and attitude.
"We know what Gaby can do," said Arteta. "He scored two assists too, and he's feeling disappointed in that dressing room because he said he could have scored four.
"That's the standard; that's the mentality you want. To go to a different level, you need that mentality.
"I wouldn't like to play against him. I've never been a defender but I can imagine that they don't enjoy it. He's so mobile, so intuitive and he's always sharp and proactive to play in any moment at any phase of the game, and he's a real threat."
Arteta is convinced that the Jesus effect has started to rub off on his team.
He added: "He lifts the standards. The way every day he's training, the way he's talking today, the way they are connecting, I think it's very natural, but at the same time it's pretty impressive to do it that quickly."
