Premier League 2022 : Last day highlights
Liverpool finished their Premier League season on great terms as they made a comeback to beat the Wolves 3-1 in their final game
However, they lost the chance to win their second Premier League title as Manchester City finished Aston Villa 3-2 and retained their title.
The champions, Manchester City, finished with 93 points. While Liverpool just fell short of 1 point, at 92, and finished as the runner-up.
The Wolves scored first in the match as Pedro Neto netted the opener in the 3rd minute. But a goal from Sadio Mane in the first half (24th minute), along with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson's late strikes after the 80-minute mark, gave the Reds a win even though despair was evident on their fans' faces as they knew they had fallen short of the title.
Late Strikes from Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson neutralize the Wolves' opener.
Three minutes into the game at Anfield, Wolves took an unexpected lead when Ibrahima Konate, a defender, misjudged a goal kick to allow Wolves' Raul Jimenez to run in behind on the right to give Neto a chance for his first goal of the season with a side foot.
However, Liverpool equalized in the 24th minute after Sadio Mane was set free by a Thiago Alcantara back heel to charge at the goal and strike an attempt that was so intense that keeper Jose Sa couldn't even get a hold of it before it went in.
John Ruddy injured Sa at halftime, and shortly after, Liverpool brought in Salah, who was rested from the start. Salah came in to score the winning goal as he attempted several shots at goal but was constantly blocked by Wolves defenders.
As news broke from the stands that Manchester City was losing 2-0 to Aston Villa and the title would be at Anfield if Liverpool scored a goal, the atmosphere became frantic in the stands.
Seven minutes before full-time ended, Salah slipped a loose ball into the box and found their breakthrough. He scored his 23rd goal and finished the campaign as the top scorer and Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min. Andy Robertson, full-back, put the cherry on the top in the 89th minute by sliding a goal after Roberto Firmino's cutback.
However, Manchester City had won their comeback with a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa and retained the title as Liverpool finished the season as the runners-up.
Wolves finished the season 10th with 51 points.
Son Heung-Min: First Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot.
The 2021-22 Premier League's Golden Boot race was the last day, with Son Heung-min trailing Mohamed Salah by just one goal at kickoff on May 22.
Liverpool finished just short of the Premier League title race on a fitting last day of a wild Premier League season. Salah scored the winning goal in Liverpool's 3-1 victory over the Wolves. This made the Egyptian finish at number one on the goal-scoring front.
However, Salah shared the Golden Boot crown with Tottenham's Son Heung-Min. Son scored a brace during Tottenham's 5-0 demolition against an already relegated Norwich City to finish on equal terms with Salah.
Salah has now won his third Premier League top scorer award, making him the fourth player after Harry Kane, Thierry Henry, and Alan Shearer. Henry is the only man who has won the Premier League Golden Boot times.
Salah is also the first Liverpool player to be ranked on the Premier League assists and goals table. He finished the season with one assist more than Trent Alexander-Arnold.
