<p>Newcastle United are planning to reshape their midfield this summer - and have reportedly lodged a bid of 50million Euros for AC Milan's Sandro Tonali.</p>
<p>Eddie Howe's Magpies secured a fourth-placed finish in the 2022/23 Premier League season, securing Champions League football at St James' Park for next season.</p>
<p>Newcastle will be playing in Europe's top tier for the first time since 2003 - and are hoping to ensure it is not a shortlived excursion by improving the quality of their squad options.</p>
<p>Howe is keen to play Bruno Guimaraes in a more advanced role next season - and sees Tonali as someone who can play in multiple midfield roles.</p>
<p>England playmaker James Maddison is also on Newcastle's summer window wanted list following Leicester City's relegation to the Championship.</p>
<p>But with new Foxes manager Enzo Maresca assessing his squad in the East Midlands, The Athletic reports that Newcastle have first moved for 23-year-old Tonali, who has made 78 appearances, scoring seven goals since moving to Milan from Brescia in September 2020.</p>
<p>Chelsea are also believed to be interested in Tonali's services - but Howe's men hold the upper hand with the offer of Champions League football.</p>
