Nations League: Will Harry Maguire be relieved of his England duties?
Gareth Southgate got what he wanted from England in terms of energy and ambition, but he got the opposite of what he didn't need from Harry Maguire and goalie Nick Pope
However, England was not particularly good in the first half at Wembley, allowing Germany too much time on the ball, but they were able to produce clear chances when they broke through Germany's press on the counter.
England was two goals behind and facing a third consecutive loss before Luke Shaw scored their first goal. Mason Mount added one more, and Harry Kane converted a penalty to bring England in striking distance of their first victory in six matches.
Maguire's season has gotten off to a terrible start, as he has lost his position in the Manchester United lineup under Erik ten Hag despite being the club captain.

After the pain and mediocrity of Hungary and Italy, England's performance was a move in the right direction, as seen by the satisfaction of their fans.
Meanwhile, Southgate did speak on Maguire and his penalty blunder; he said, "It is hard to tell from the side. The giving away of possession is the problem, but as a group, they have really come together this week. It has been a tough period for the team, but they have grown."
On the question of picking and dropping players, Southgate clarified, "That's always going to raise debate but I think in these moments we've got to back our best and our most experienced players unless we're in a situation where it's almost untenable and impossible to pick them."
