Manchester United news: Red Devils show interest in Benfica star Goncalo Ramos

As Manchester United look to bolster their depth in attack this summer, the latest player they are setting their sights on is Benfica's Goncalo Ramos.

    Goncalo Ramos. Goncalo Ramos.

Manchester United have been in fine form this season, even winning the Carabao Cup in Erik Ten Hag's first season.

There is, however, one position within the team that is lacking in depth.

This is where Goncalo Ramos comes to save the day. The Benfica striker has been in fine form this season, making 21 goal contributions in 21 league games.

The Red Devils attempted to help their situation in January by signing Burnley striker, Wout Weghorst, on a six-month-loan-deal with an option to buy.

The 6'6 striker is yet to hit the ground running and, for a team of Man United's stature, they need a world class striker leading their attack.

Ramos has already shown he can do it on the grandest stage after starting over Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal's short lived 2022 World Cup campaign.

The 21-year-old became the youngest player ever to score a hat-trick in the World Cup finals during Portugal's 6-1 win against Switzerland.

The striker is currently worth around £35million, though Benfica will likely demand much more if a deal is made.

Ramos would suit Ten Hag's style of play tremendously as he often plays short passes - something which aligns with his managerial style very well.

Before Darwin Nunez left Benfica for Liverpool in the summer, Ramos was second choice within the squad.

Despite this, he has performed exceptionally throughout the 2022/23 season so far. Ramos has even found himself second in the Primeria Liga top scorer rankings, scoring 16.

Man United are reportedly willing to pay up to £88million to acquire the attackers services this summer.

It is also claimed that Ten Hag himself has given The Red Devils' board the 'green light' to go for the player.
