Manchester United News: Adrien Rabiot's deal is off
Adrien Rabiot's proposed move to Manchester United is now extremely unlikely. United desperately needed new signings to improve their form, and their midfield has become a source of contention
They wanted to add Rabiot to their squad to strengthen that area, and Juventus was happy to let him go.
Manchester United and Juventus reached a fee agreement but were unable to agree on personal terms for the 27-year-old midfielder.
Because of the disparity between their salary offer and his expectations, the potential deal is currently on hold.
Despite offering to make Rabiot one of the club's highest-paid players, Manchester United has refused to meet his demands.
Rabiot's request for a larger financial package is said to be in order to compensate for foregoing Champions League football at Juventus in order to play at least one season in the Europa League at Old Trafford.
A comeback is not out of the question, but Manchester United is looking into other options right now.
The Premier League club is thought to have been willing to place Rabiot alongside some of their top earners, such as Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.
However, the France international's representative in the negotiations, his mother and agent Veronique, is thought to have requested a higher level — particularly given what he could command as a free agent next summer — and United was unwilling to meet that request.
What are Manchester United's alternatives?
The 27-year-old requested to be named one of Manchester United's highest-paid players, but the club declined.
The Old Trafford club is currently in talks with other candidates.
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro as a replacement for Rabiot, and many other options are being considered, including Brighton & Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo.
Casemiro, 30, came on as a substitute in Real Madrid's first league game against Almeria, with manager Carlo Ancelotti instead starting Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga, and summer signing Aurelien Tchouameni in midfield.
According to reports, Casemiro would prefer to stay at the Bernabeu, where he has a contract until 2025; the Brazilian has not ruled out a move to Old Trafford.
They are believed to be in the final stages of deciding where their budget will be best spent, and they remain confident of bringing in an elite player before the market closes.
Although United's desire to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona remains undimmed, and the club will not rule him out, his arrival at Old Trafford appears increasingly unlikely.
Despite his club's desire to sell, it would not be surprising if Frenkie de Jong stayed in Barcelona.
United's start to the Premier League season has been difficult, with new manager Erik ten Hag overseeing two defeats, a 2-1 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford and a humiliating 4-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday.
The Dutchman and his bottom-of-the-table side face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday.
