Manchester United: New Manager and Summer Transfer
Manchester United are looking forward to a period of major changes which could improve their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
The first step to get there would involve replacing manager Ralf Rangnick and executing an effective summer transfer. Ralf Rangnick could act as a consultant, and would assist chief executive Richard Arnold in recruiting new players. Manchester United have to appoint a new manager by June 1, although a final decision is yet to be made.
Front-runners in the Search for a New Manager
Mauricio Pochettino's work at Tottenham Hotspur elevated his reputation which is why Old Trafford might want to hire him. International coaches Roberto Mancini, Luis Enrique, and Thomas Tuchel also joined the list. However, Ralf Rangnick leans more onto Ajax's Erik ten Hag. He has two Eredivisie titles and a Champions League semi-final to his credit that Ajax into one of Europe's most famous clubs. He is already in touch with Red Devil's chiefs, but in contrast to the rumors spreading out, Fabrizio Romano revealed that the manager and club chiefs discussed the transfer budget and targets.
Meanwhile, Luis Enrique wants to see to his Spain contract until after the World Cup in Qatar despite United seeking him out. The 51-year-old has been a manager at Barcelona. He won the treble in 2014/15, and then bagged the FIFA World Coach of the Year prize. He won nine major titles during his time with Barcelona. Unfortunately, he is not available until December this year. On the other hand, Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham boss, might leave Paris Saint-German to join Manchester United.
Potential Outgoings for the Summer Transfer
Before new players can be signed, the Red Devils must sanction some exits. The first departure might involve Paul Pogba, who might be looking to end his second spell with the club after they couldn't bag a major trophy. Likewise, Jesse Lingard's 22-year long spell with United is approaching its end. Edinson Cavani's deal will also expire at the same time and the list goes on including fourth-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant and loyal servant Juan Mata.
The second list of players involves men who are axed from their contracts. Dean Henderson, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, and defender Victor Lindelof. Brandon Williams and Donny van de Beek have been taken by Norwich City and Everton respectively on loan. Mid-fielders possibly about to depart include Nemanja Matic, Andreas Pereira, and Anthony Martial. With so many outgoings, the Red Devils will rely on the transfer market to redeem the club.
New Signings for Utd
Manchester United currently lags behind in the right-back department due to poor performances by Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot throughout their Old Trafford careers. Ten Hag could call for Ajax ace Noussair Mazraoui although eyes are set on Brighton's Tariq Lamptey. The 21-year-old became a legendary defender in the Premier League after ending his 12-year association with Chelsea in January 2020. Young star Declan Rice is required to fix the club's defensive midfield.
Sacking him would cost Old Trafford more than £100million but Chelsea's financial issues could provide United with the best opportunity. Moreover, his fondness for Old Trafford might motivate him to join them. If Ten Hag hails as the manager, RB Leipzig dynamo Amadou Haidara could be recruited. As strikers are concerned, the options include Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Benfica, and Darwin Nunez.
