Manchester United preparing a summer move for Barcelona's Ronald Araujo
Reports suggest that Manchester United is setting up a bid to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo this summer.
Ronald Araújo has delivered an outstanding performance as a defender during his time in FC Barcelona.
However, he is not sure whether he would renew his contract at FC Barcelona as other clubs take notice and set their eyes on the young star.
Barcelona might not crack a new deal with Ronald Araújo which means he could be sold.
The club will most likely give him up before he gets snagged for free in 2023.
United readying a £33m bid
Manchester United is arranging for a £33million bid to finalise Ronald Araújo entry into the club this summer.
The claim was made by El Nacional, translated into English by Stretty News. It stated that they are ready to sign up the defender for a great salary to retain him at Old Trafford.
The 'Red Devils' have eyed a few iconic players including Ronald Araújo prior to a packed summer.
The 22-year-old Uruguay international has significantly improved over the last year.
Moreover, his contract at Camp Nou is expiring in June 2023 which means he has around a year left on his current deal. It is to be noted that United gave an unsatisfactory performance last year, especially Captain Harry Maguire who continued to repeat his errors.
Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane are struggling with other issues.
Although the club has spent a lot of money to strengthen their defense, things haven't worked out well so far.
Old Trafford has a lot of experienced players in the back line. They have to be replaced in the next few years.
So Araujo's arrival could secure the team before the senior players move on.
Other clubs are eyeing Araujo
The second club targeting the center-half down is Barcelona, which has failed to make a deal with the young footballer.
People are also entertaining the possibility of Araujo acting pricey because of his interest to earn a more profitable contract at Barca. Even if this theory doesn't hold true, United would still be making the proposal considering Araujo's skills.
The plan to renew his contract was teased before the pandemic broke out in March 2020, but Barcelona's financial issues thwarted their impact. President Joan Laporta disclosed that the club has debts of £977million and recorded losses last year of £401million.
Barcelona offer has been rejected once by Ronald Araújo during contract renewal talks. That also heightened the issue surrounding his future in the club. He has shown no interest in staying back in Barcelona.
Till now, the center-back is credited with 63 appearances for the Blaugranas after a terrific campaign in 2020-21. Despite making six appearances in 2019-20, he took on a variety of competitions last term with 33 matches in his bag along with two goals.
The young defender is now an indispensable part of Xavi's team which explains his reluctance to part with him.
Their central defence also includes veteran Gerard Pique, who turned 35 on February 2, 2022.
